lyme disease symptoms horses

what is a disease that mimics the symptoms of Lyme disease?
i have a retired race horse that has been showing arthritic type lameness an different legs at different times. we dont know why. nuerological tests were inconclusive. lyme test came back so negative that the vet feels there is noway he has this condidiotn. he is only 5 years old. he broke his knee while racing and had surgury to repair it…he was never able to be condiditoned up to the point of racing again. the horse was given to me 1 and 1/2 years ago. i have spent thusands of dollars on putting out all the fires as they come up. first it was sore feet so we put glue on shoes on. then it was excruciating back pain so i had a master saddle rcome out and custome fit a new saddle to him. he has had 2 acupuncture sessions that helped alot. he has stomach ulcers so i can not feed him anti inflamitories. he has a completly limp tail. i am starting him on adequan injections when they come in next week. what the heck could this be?
Hello,
Lyme tests can often times be very inconclusive in all mammals, humans and horses alike. Seeing as though your horse seems to have a multi-systemic illness i believe it is fair to say that he is suffering from lyme disease or another vector borne illness. You should find a vet who is well-experienced in treating horses with lyme disease, as they will know that a correct diagnosis will be in accordance with symptoms rather than a test result which can truly be misleading. I hope that this helps, and in the meantime you can ask this vet just to try a round or two of antibiotics for your horse, and see if it brings any relief. Good luck!
