What kinds of horses may compete in USEF competitions?

I skimmed the rule book, and it mentioned certain breeds, but didn’t really my question. Does a horse or pony have to be a registered Andalusian / Lusitano, Arabian / Half-Arabian, Connemara, Friesian,
Hackney, Morgan, National Show Horse, Paso Fino, Saddlebred, Shetland, or Welsh to compete? Those are the breeds specifically listed. I am not at all familiar with USEF competitions, only breed specific shows. Anyone want to give me an overview? Like I said, I skimmed the web site, but it didn’t give me an overview that I could understand.
Can a grade horse compete in USEF?
Thanks, PonyGirl. It still seems somewhat confusing, but then there are no USEF shows around here, so I was just being nosy. Yes, AQHA and APHA background, and old. I still remember when it as AHSA, I found the USEF website by searching AHSA, I thought that was interesting. :)

I’d guess you are coming from AQHA. They have been an entity of their own for a very long time.

The USEF is a bigger entity than AQHA, but it functions much the same way. It has jurisdiction over shows that are breed specific (those you mentioned) as well as activity specific, such as hunter, dressage, eventing, reining, western riding, (maybe endurance?) and combined driving.

To compete in the breed specific stuff, yes, the horse much be registered with their individual breed association.

To compete in the activity specific stuff, breeding doesn’t matter, gaits and guts count. They can be a registered horse, or they can be a grade critter.

–edit–

I still call it AHSA too! You should have followed all the stuff the eventers did, they changed 3 times before settling on USAE! Then there’s the dressage folks who are USDF. Especially when talking on the phone, you have to enunciate very clearly when referring to USDF or USEF, because it is close when you say it! I kind of have a lisp, so that makes it really tough!
